The Chrysler Building’s secret spire. A 185-foot stainless steel spire, assembled in secret inside the building’s fire shaft, is raised through the roof in about ninety minutes, making the Chrysler Building the tallest in the world. It holds the title for eleven months. Six days later the stock market crashes.
